MULTI-BRAND OFFICE RECEPTION: HOW TO HANDLE BRAND IDENTITIES WITHOUT CAUSING CONFLICT?

In a multi-brand corporate model, the reception area must represent the entire ecosystem without creating visual clutter or identity conflicts. This is a challenge commonly faced by organizations with many sub-brands, especially in creative industries or specialized service groups. With extensive experience delivering large-scale projects, IDD Decor shares strategies to design a multi-brand reception that is both visually appealing and cohesive.

1. Why Are Multi-Brand Reception Areas More Complex?

Multi-brand receptions require a higher level of sophistication because they must accommodate multiple identities in one shared space. Each sub-brand carries its own color palette, tone of voice, and visual system, which can easily lead to chaos if not organized under a clear hierarchy. Additionally, each sub-brand may want to express its personality, making the space visually “overloaded.”

In this context, the reception must act as a “visual coordinator”—establishing a primary identity axis while providing a neutral background that allows sub-brands to appear in a controlled and structured manner.

2. Fundamental Principles for Designing a Multi-Brand Reception

2.1. Establish the “Primary Identity Axis” – The Parent Brand Takes Center Stage

Any multi-brand office should highlight the parent brand as the focal point of the reception. This ensures that visitors immediately understand the leadership and structure of the group before entering the areas dedicated to individual sub-brands. A reception area that uses only the parent brand’s logo, colors, and core identity elements conveys authority and professionalism.

2.2. Neutral Materials to Harmonize Multiple Identities

Materials play a crucial role in maintaining balance. Neutral stone, light-toned wood, polished concrete, or brushed metal create a clean “background,” preventing sub-brand colors from clashing or overpowering one another. These materials also fit modern design styles where elegance and minimalism are prioritized.

2.3. Hierarchical Identity Placement Instead of Displaying Everything at Once

Instead of placing all logos on a single wall, sub-brands should be organized in a hierarchy: parent brand → brand group → sub-brands.
This helps visitors understand the brand structure clearly and avoids the effect of a “multi-logo notice board,” which often appears unprofessional.

2.4. Use Monochrome Logos to Reduce Visual Conflict

Multi-colored logos placed side by side can disrupt harmony. When aligned with brand guidelines, monochrome versions allow sub-brands to appear more refined without disrupting the overall space. This approach is particularly effective when sub-brands span diverse creative fields.

2.5. Lighting as a Guiding Element, Not a Divider

In a multi-brand reception, lighting should create continuity across functional zones. Linear lighting, backlit logos, or soft accent lighting guide the visitor’s path without visually dividing the space. This supports the sense of cohesion necessary in multi-brand environments.

3. Spatial Planning – The Key to Success

A well-structured spatial layout is essential for multi-brand reception design. Typically, the visitor flow moves from the main reception → a secondary hall → individual sub-brand areas.

At the main reception, the parent brand dominates. Deeper into the office, transition walls or corridors begin introducing sub-brand logos in monochrome format. Finally, in the dedicated office zones, each sub-brand is fully expressed through its colors, stories, and design language.

4. Case Study: How IDD Decor Designed a Multi-Brand Identity System for Publicis Group

4.1. Publicis Reception – Highlighting the Parent Brand’s Authority

IDD Decor designed the Publicis reception by placing all visual emphasis on the parent brand. The Publicis logo is positioned centrally and crafted from CNC-cut metal for elegance and sharpness. A satin-black feature wall paired with smoky gray stone enhances the logo, illuminated by a soft golden backlight. No sub-brand logos appear here, ensuring absolute focus on the parent brand.

4.2. Secondary Hall – Controlled Introduction of Sub-Brands

From the main reception, visitors are guided to a secondary hall where the Publicis logo continues to dominate.

Here, visuals of the working environments of other group agencies are displayed—serving as a subtle introduction to the ecosystem before visitors enter the media hall.

4.3. Media Hall & Communication Hall – Where Creativity Takes Center Stage

In the Media Hall, individual agency identities—such as Saatchi & Saatchi, Leo Burnett, Digitas, etc.—are fully expressed. Each brand uses its own colors, typography, visual language, or artwall to assert individuality.

Since these spaces are separated from the reception, they do not disrupt the main brand image while still allowing each agency to showcase its creative spirit.

This is showcased clearly in IDD Decor’s office interior design project for one of these agencies—Leo Burnett.

5. Conclusion – Designing a Multi-Brand Reception Is a Strategic Exercise

Creating a multi-brand reception requires deep understanding of brand identity and visitor flow. A successful reception is not only visually appealing but also clearly communicates the brand hierarchy and strategic structure. When the parent brand anchors the main space and sub-brands are introduced progressively, the environment becomes harmonious and professional.
